Yes ! I know it hurts. But it’s sadly true !! The former and the most successful captain MS. Dhoni in Indian Cricket with three ICC Trophies retires from International Cricket. He made the announcement through a video on Instagram.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni AKA Mahi made his ODI debut in 2004, after which he changed the face of Indian Cricket with his excellent performance and sharp understanding of the game and leader-savy qualities which made him win hearts all over the world.
He is one of the most admired and respected cricketers, Dhoni is also among the most successful captains in world cricket. He retires as India’s most successful captain in internationals, having won three ICC trophies – 2007 T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup in 2011, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy – the only captain to do so.
After near a 16 Year-long-storied Career , dhoni has made the announcement over a video on instagram, Its’ caption reading :- “Thanks – Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”
The announcement means that Dhoni’s last India game would remain the semifinal of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in which India lost to New Zealand by 18 runs. It was his 350th ODI, in which he scored 50 off 72 balls before being run-out by a bullet throw from Martin Guptill in the deep. Incidentally, Dhoni was run-out in his first ODI as well.
While his heroic perfomances are well documented, it was also under his leadership that India became the No. 1 Test side in 2009 and the team stayed at the top for over 600 days. He has led India to victory in 21 home Test matches, the most by an Indian captain.
